Psychologist and hypnotherapist
“The [Psychologist] ...if [she] is indeed wise does not bid you enter the house of [her] wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.” - Kahlil Gibran
I love what I do and consider it a privilege and an honour to be in the unique position to facilitate the person to find the Beauty in their own Life Song. – Patricia Young
As a Psychologist, I have spent over 15 years in Australia working with a wide range of people and their personal issues. My interest in counselling began when I was 21 years old, working as a counsellor in Israel. When I returned to Australia, and after numerous life experiences, such as starting a family, I returned to study and completed my Psychology Degree in 2001 and commenced working as a Psychologist in Australia. I have gained experience working in a University setting and other practices and I now manage my own private practice in Brisbane, Australia.
I have grown in wisdom and knowledge in life and human nature, as I listen to every person who touches my life, as I believe every person has their own `truth’ to share and life story. My own passionate interest to pursue knowledge in a variety of disciplines and traditions; and my own life experiences, has led me to adopt a holistic approach to therapy. While I employ evidence-based Western Psychological Approaches to therapy, I utilise my varied experience to work with people in a holistic and integrated way. It is interesting to note a trend in Western Psychology research and development of approaches to therapy that integrate Eastern Spiritual traditions. For example, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) integrates Western Behavioural Psychology with Eastern philosophy and principles of the “Tao”. Additionally, psychological research has found the power of Prayer to have a positive effect in healing the human body. Creative visualisation is used in conjunction with traditional oncological treatment in the management of people diagnosed with cancer.
You can expect in your therapy sessions with me, that I respect and honour your Religious or Spiritual Beliefs and Way of Life; follow the Code of Ethics of my profession; maintain ongoing study and professional development; engage with trust, genuineness, compassion, motivation, insight and specific tools; and vision and future direction. I strive to create a space of warmth and safety to explore, at your own pace, the concerns you bring to therapy.
